Optimal health is health that is constantly improving!
What does optimal health have to do with Toyota the car company? Well, have you ever heard the story of what made them the number one automaker in the world?
One of the main principals the company lives by is to always make improvements in how they make cars. Everything from hiring and marketing right down to making the actual cars. This kind of mentality practiced over many years is what allowed them to reach the top. When it comes to health your mentality should be quite similar if you are seeking optimal health.
Let me ask you a question (well okay a few questions) ...... Are there aspects of your health that could use improvement? Are their aspects of your health that don't seem to need any improvement? Now how about the aspects of your health you don't know about...... Do you have a few areas of your health that you don't know anything about (if they are good or bad)?
When we are considering optimal health we first need a foundation or starting place to build on. When Toyota said, "we need to make improvements on in our cars," they needed a starting point to make those improvements from. The same is true for your health. To make improvements you need to know where you are staring and which areas to focus on. The holistic test is a great place to begin to determine
which areas of your health to focus on.
Don't be Fooled by a "healthy" annual doctor visit.
It is not uncommon for patients to come to me with several symptoms yet have a "clean bill of health" from their conventional medical doctor. They went to their doctor who sat down with them for 15 minutes (maybe less) looked over some lab work. At the end of the 15 minutes....... "your healthy, I don't see anything to worry about." But Doc. what about those symptoms (fatigue, headaches, digestive pain) I asked about.......? You won't reach optimal health this way.
How is this possible? Your body is telling you something is wrong (yes that is what those symptoms mean), and generally you should listen. Conventional medicine (for the most part) is concerned with absence of disease. This means, if there is no physical indication of a health problem through labs, physical, or imaging, there is "no disease." What I look for is optimal health. If you are having symptoms and there is no physical evidence, that does not mean you are healthy. Health is not a static fixed thing, it is a spectrum from optimal health all the way to end of life. Sure, it may not be possible to be as healthy as you were ten years ago.... But don't you think there are things you can do today that will improve your health tomorrow, a week from now or a year from now?
I'm not talking about radical changes, just small incremental changes that you will hardly even notice. When you look back at your health months or even years later, it seem radical.
Ready to Go?
I will assume you are now... ready to get started on the path to
optimal health
or health improvement. One small but important ingredient you will need before we start is the desire to make improvements. I can give you all the information in the world on how to do it, but if you are not ready or unwilling....... Well, I think you know the rest. So get ready for at some action on your part. This includes answering questions, doing experiments, and self study. If you follow along with me through this process you will undoubtedly have better health in the end. Really that is all we are talking about here, a little better than before. So lets go.
If you have not become familiar with "The Human Body" sections please do so. These serve as the foundation that we will be building on here in the optimal health section. Alternatively (and even better), take the
holistic health test
and determine which area(s) of your health need improvement. Then go through "the human body" section and the "optimal health" section to see how to improve those areas.
A quick distinction
In "the human body" sections, the focus was on understanding holistic health through balance and synergy in the systems of the body. In the "optimal health" sections the focus is on optimizing specific systems and their relationships with other systems. The areas in the optimal health section are listed below. The areas of "the human body" section can be found there.
