Treat your chronic illness with holistic solutions!
Chronic illness effects one out of two people in the United States but very few take action to improve their illness holistically. Conventional treatment for these illnesses provide little or no benefit to quality of life or symptom relief. Despite this, many patients are on medications for 10, 20, and even 30 years. For the most part medications offer targeted approaches to prevent further progression or worsening of the illness. While this targeted approach may offer some benefits and relief from the ailment itself, the medications can also cause problem in other areas of the body. Therefore I would like to offer you other, more holistic solutions to some of these ailments. A holistic health approach keeps the entire system in mind while treating the specific ailment.
Let's look at a quick example from one of my patients that illustrates this point. We will then look at the specific chronic illnesses such as diabetes,
high blood pressure,
arthritis, high cholesterol , auto immune diseases, digestive problem, irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, and more.
In cases of people with private health insurance, holistic treatment is not always part of your basic overage. If you are looking for holistic health coverage, do a little research and get the best health insurance
possible for you.
From daily abdominal pain to optimal digestion.
About 6 months ago a 30 year old female came to my office with terrible abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, a form of Irritable Bowel Disease. She had suffered with this
for a major part of her life, starting at age 17. More recently, about 16 months ago, it started getting worse. When she arrived she was taking a medication called Mesalazine and a steroid, prednisone. The theory for using these medications is to decrease immune function in the hope that it will calm the inflammation. You have to remember that the problem with ulcerative colitis is an excessive amount of inflammation that eats away at the bowel. So much so that this inflammation leads to ulcers and bleeding in most cases. Since the immune system is the system responsible for creating inflammation, the treatment above seeks to shut it off.
The problem with this treatment is that it creates a major vulnerability in the body by reducing the immune function. It leaves the person open to infection, cancer, and more. I simply asked the question, "what could be causing so much inflammation?"
What we found is that she was reacting to several foods she was eating. This is not an uncommon experience. The trick is determining what foods are cause which symptoms. After eliminating several foods and adding a few nutritional supplements, her symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis were completely resolved.
This was a very impressive result since she was having severely painful diarrhea several times daily. Her other treatment plan did help decrease her symptoms for a while, but her digestive system was working at a suboptimal level and the treatment was starting to fail. She was facing surgery to remove parts of her colon. Her poor functioning digestive system and suppressed immune system were creating a trickle down effect of poor functioning in other parts of her body too.
With a few simple questions and a lot of hard work on her part, she has her life back. A
approach allowed her to have a healthy immune system and a healthy digestive system. Currently she needs no medications and has no symptoms, outstanding!
